Generator Technician

Job Description
The Generator Technician will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel power generators, ensuring optimal performance, compliance with safety standards, and high levels of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, commission, and test diesel power generators and associated control panels
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on generators and auxiliary systems
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and control system faults
  • Repair or replace defective components including engines, alternators, sensors, and breakers
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintain service schedules
  • Maintain accurate service reports and maintenance records
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergency service calls on a 24×7 basis
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards
  • Coordinate with engineers, supervisors, and customers during service operations
  • Support warranty services and after-sales technical support
  • Assist in load testing and performance evaluations

Qualifications & Experience
  • Certificate/Diploma / NVQ qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 1-3 years' experience in generator servicing, power systems, or industrial equipment
  • Experience with diesel engines, alternators, or heavy machinery will be an advantage
  • Fresh technicians with strong technical training may also be considered

Skills & Attributes
  • Strong technical knowledge of diesel generator systems
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and measuring instruments
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Willingness to work on-site, outdoors, and during emergencies
  • High level of safety awareness, reliability, and customer focus
