Ideal Candidate:
- Tertiary qualification in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related discipline (preferred).
- Equivalent professional experience and a strong portfolio will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
- Willing and able to commit to an on-site job
- Friendly, outgoing, and collaborative — a genuine team player.
- Strong, proven proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro.
- Strong, proven experience in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint for design-quality document production.
- Demonstrated ability to confidently conceptualise, design, and produce custom illustrations and icons.
- Strong typesetting and layout experience across a range of print and digital publications.
- Meticulous attention to detail with a high standard of self-review and output quality.
- Ability to conceptualise ideas quickly and adapt to briefs across varied subject matter.
- Comfortable working across both print and digital/web environments.
- Willingness and ability to assist in web development tasks as required.
- Confident and effective communication style — written, verbal, and within a team
- Creative, curious, and energetic with a passion for thoughtful design.
- Critical thinker with a strong solution-focused problem-solving style
- An understanding of and compliance to quality management systems and information security frameworks is expected
Key Responsibilities:
Graphic Design and Accessibility Design -Primary Focus
- Confidently and efficiently conceptualise, design, adapt, and create custom illustrations and icons to a high standard.
- Design, create, and update Adobe InDesign documents across a range of print and digital publication types.
- Produce and format professional documents in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint to design-quality standard.
- Ensure all artwork consistently meets visual style guide and brand requirements.
- Support the existing team on a range of graphic design, typesetting, and print publication projects.
- Work comfortably across both print and web/digital formats, moving fluidly between the two.
- Manage multiple design tasks simultaneously, planning and communicating timelines effectively with the Team Leader.
- Learn and apply best practices for creating accessible files, including accessible PDF, Word, and PowerPoint documents.
- Adapt designs and layouts with accessibility in mind — including colour contrast, font legibility, and inclusive visual communication.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate complex information into clear, accessible visual content.
- Develop an understanding of web accessibility principles and how they apply to design outputs.
Web Development Support – Secondary Focus
- Assist the internal Innovation and Web Developer in building, developing, and updating websites on the WordPress platform.
- Prepare and optimise design assets (graphics, icons, illustrations) for web and digital use.
- Ideally have some knowledge of, or a genuine willingness to learn:
- Front-end development — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, PHP, and jQuery
- Python and Django
- Linux, command line, and SSH
- Back-end administration including Nginx, databases, and DNS
- Learn how to audit the accessibility of websites with guidance from the team.
- Learn system administration and server management under the mentorship of the internal Innovation and Web Developer.
