Marine & Civil Engineer

Position Overview
The Senior Marine & Civil Engineer will provide specialist engineering expertise across the full spectrum of marine and civil construction works undertaken by CMC, including dredging, land reclamation, shore protection, revetment design, harbour structures, and infrastructure development in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The incumbent will be responsible for technical design, engineering oversight, and quality assurance across all assigned projects.

Key Requirements
  • Work Location: Sri Lanka (with travel to Maldives and other project sites as required)
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years in marine and/or civil engineering, with hands-on experience in dredging, reclamation, shore protection, or marine structures
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or Earth Resources Engineering
  • Professional Reg.: Corporate or Associate Membership of IESL; ECSL registration required
  • Language: Fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or equivalent; MS Office Suite; familiarity with GIS tools an advantage

Responsibilities
  • Undertake and review technical designs for marine and civil works including revetment, shore protection, reclamation, drainage, and harbour structures
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, BOQs, and method statements
  • Provide on-site engineering oversight to ensure construction is executed in accordance with approved designs and specifications
  • Conduct site investigations, surveys, and assessments to inform engineering solutions
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities on technical matters throughout the project lifecycle
  • Monitor and enforce quality assurance and quality control procedures across all site activities
  • Identify and resolve technical issues on-site in a timely and practical manner
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff on site
  • Prepare technical sections of tender submissions, feasibility studies, and engineering reports
  • Ensure full compliance with HSE standards, environmental regulations, and contractual technical requirements

Key Competencies
  • Deep technical knowledge of marine and coastal engineering principles, materials, and construction methods
  • Strong analytical and design capability with practical site application experience
  • Ability to read, interpret, and produce detailed engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Sound understanding of geotechnical, hydrological, and oceanographic factors affecting marine construction
  • Effective communication and report-writing skills for technical and client-facing audiences
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in challenging site environments
