POSITION OVERVIEW
The Project Accountant Marine & Civil Construction will be responsible for managing the financial and accounting functions of assigned projects to ensure effective financial planning, cost control, budgeting, reporting, and compliance with company policies and statutory requirements. The incumbent will work closely with Project Managers, Commercial Teams, Procurement, and Finance to provide timely financial information, monitor project performance, and support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. The Project Accountant will play a key role in maintaining financial discipline by ensuring accurate recording of project costs, monitoring budgets, preparing financial analyses, and safeguarding the Company's commercial interests while supporting the successful delivery of marine and civil construction projects across Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
Criteria Requirement
- Experience Minimum 7 years of experience in project accounting, financial management, or cost control within the construction, engineering, infrastructure, or related industries
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline. Full or part qualification in CA Sri Lanka, CIMA, ACCA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification will be an added advantage.
- Age 30 to 45 years
- Language Fluent in English (written and spoken); Sinhala is essential and Tamil will be an added advantage
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, Advanced Excel, ERP systems, accounting software, project costing systems, and financial reporting applications
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the day-to-day financial and accounting activities of assigned construction projects, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies.
- Prepare and monitor project budgets, cost forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial performance reports throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets and investigate cost variances, recommending appropriate corrective actions.
- Record, reconcile, and analyse project-related income, expenses, work-in-progress, retention amounts, and project profitability.
- Prepare client invoices, progress billings, payment certificates, and monitor collections in coordination with the Commercial and Project Management teams.
- Verify supplier invoices, subcontractor payment applications, purchase orders, and supporting documentation prior to processing payments.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Stores, and Project Teams to ensure accurate allocation of material, labour, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Prepare monthly project financial reports, management accounts, cost analyses, and performance summaries for senior management.
- Maintain accurate financial records, supporting documentation, and project accounting files to facilitate internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with statutory tax requirements, financial regulations, accounting standards, and company financial procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and project feasibility assessments.
- Support Project Managers by providing financial insights and recommendations to improve cost control, profitability, and operational efficiency.
- Liaise with auditors, banks, clients, consultants, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities on project-related financial matters when required.
- Identify financial risks affecting project performance and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies to safeguard the Company's commercial interests.
- Participate in project review meetings and provide timely financial updates to support management decision-making.

- Strong knowledge of project accounting, construction costing, budgeting, and financial reporting principles.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and financial modelling skills.
- Strong understanding of construction project cash flow management and cost control techniques.
- High level of proficiency in ERP systems, accounting software, and Advanced Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy under tight deadlines.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.

- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining financial accuracy and meeting reporting deadlines.
